Track your usage with a Kill A Watt

Devices have been in stores for a while now which provide a constant, digital reading of how much electricity your home or even individual appliances are using.

One type, like the Kill A Watt, fits between an electrical outlet and an appliance to give you an instant reading of how much electricity an appliance draws.

Use your microwave for cooking whenever possible.  They use 50 to 65 percent less energy than conventional ovens, and come summer, they won't make your kitchen so warm.  However, conventional ovens may be more appropriate for larger size items when cooking time is increased.
